In the first episode of Haunted Leeds, the team lock themselves into one of the city's creepiest locations. The cells beneath the front steps of Leeds Town Hall date back to 1864 and were used to hold prisoners who had been arrested in town and awaiting either their appearance in court...or transfer back to Armley to serve their sentence or face the gallows. The stark whitewashed walls, wooden benches and iron rings used to chain the prisoners up are as grim today as they would have been when they were put to use in Victorian times and give off an aura of foreboding. The cells are said to be haunted by the ghost of notorious Leeds killer Charlie Peace, who was executed on February 25, 1879. Peace had been responsible for two murders, a number of burglaries and had evaded capture for years. He was finally arrested in London before being brought back to Leeds to stand trial. ,Armed with the knowledge that the cells were once home to some of Leeds' most horrendous characters, the team conduct Ouija experiments to see if they can get in touch with spirits. But they get much, much more than they bargained for....
