In June 2008 the Haunted Leeds team became the first paranormal investigators to carry out a full investigation in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey.
Now, they're back – but this time they're in the Abbey's museum. And if you thought the grounds were scary, wait until you see inside here. The museum includes the abbey's former gatehouse - one of the oldest parts of the site, dating back to 1152. The gatehouse was converted into a home by the abbey's last abbot John Ripley in 1539. From then on, Abbey House became a residence, first for farmers, then for notable Leeds families such as the Butlers of Kirkstall Forge. The house was sold to Leeds Corporation in 1925 and was opened to the public as a museum in 1927. During the 1950s Victorian street scenes were added before the entire museum underwent extensive refurbishment in the 1990s. But the modern facilities within the museum have failed to quash the constant tales of ghost sightings. According to the staff who work at Abbey House, the museum boasts far more unexplained happenings than the ruins across the road. The voices of children singing, a figure seen in a window's reflection when there was no one else in the building are just two of the recent happenings. Recently a child asked about seeing a man who could not have been in the museum's Sunday School and a member of staff felt a figure walk past but saw no one.
But will the bells be ringing out tonight?
